What’s Showing?

After a red carpet reception for filmmakers and supporters, attendees enjoy a sumptous Valentine’s Dinner while children 4 – 10 watch films just for them in Bethany’s Youth Wing. After dinner the beautiful sanctuary of Bethany Christian transforms into a majestic moviehouse to present “Rogue Saints”. The comedy caper of two friends digging for diamonds under a church kicks off the event.

Friday night’s offerings include “Hardflip” the award-winning family drama about a skateboarder is presented by the TruthRiders a team of Christian skateboarders who were involved in the creation of the film. While this film with a Youth focus in on a huge screen in the gym, moviegoers in the sanctuary theater will enjoy “Seven Days in Utopia” starring Robert Duvall first. The following film is the World Festival Premier of “Faith Under Fire” produced and directed by national award-winning Houstonian, Sondra Martin-Hicks. The film is a powerful true story of tragedy and forgiveness as the filmmaker revisits witnesses, victims, and a daughter twenty years after a mass shooting at a church in Daingerfield, Texas. Sondra will be available following her film for a Q&A with the audience.

In the early afternoon on Saturday, February 16th award-winning filmmakers gather at the Emerging Filmmakers Forum to share victories, challenges, war-stories and laughter. The public, especially anyone of any age who would like to dialogue with our filmmakers, is invited to register and attend.

Other Saturday showings include Houston’s Cross Wind Productions’ Teen Scriptwriter winner’s film “The Guardian” starring Houston’s own Wayne Dehart and quality teen talent. “New Lyrics for an Old Love Song” fills the screen with bigger than life man and band Schafe.  The Ken Bailey film is an encouraging story of survival and beyond.

As soon as the Chili-cookoff winner on Saturday is announced, attendees will feast on samples, while they last, from all the contestants in bowls, on hot dogs and their own creations.

With chili still being ladled, NBA and Fox Sports Southwest celebrity Mike Glenn will challenge a few lucky attendees to a personal game of L.U.V. (it’s like HORSE only shorter) Mike is in town for with Fox for the NBA All Star Game the next night, but will be at the festival for the US Premier of his film, “Spirit of Love.” Filmmaker Darla Rae will be at the festival for much of the week with her involvement culminating in the US Premier of her film.  For both Mike and Darla this film is their own Valentine to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Many from Deaf and Hard of Hearing ministries around Texas and beyond are already registered to attend. Many more are rushing to register before the limited number of seats are taken.
